This CD-Rom by Dorling Kindersley is aimed at the 5-9 age group and is a brilliant tool for use either as a reference, or as a game promoting learning along the way. The premise is to explore the British Isles, and collect postcards and stickers on the way but what it actually does is teach your child a whole lot of geography skills - for instance, map reading, or compiling a weather report.
Dorling Kindersley worked hard to ensure that the .............. and quizzes along the way, were in line with National Curriculum guidelines - making this an excellent programme to supplement and reiterate what children are learning in school. By the same token, home-schooling parents would find it very useful to include in their learning plans.
The additional Ideas and Activities for Parents and Teachers booklet is full of ways to utilise the CD-Rom in other fun ways (for instance to encourage children to role play as travel agents with other children, and to look up locations/attractions etc) or for activities that reiterate the learning, in real terms. One activity is to collate postcards, photos, and other memorabilia from their own excursions, and then to turn this into a project
